About the Therapist

Every guide is also a traveler. My own path has woven together old songs and new science, lived experience and professional training. I walk alongside my clients with curiosity, compassion, and deep respect for the complexity of being human.

My Training & Credentials

  • Associate Marriage & Family Therapist (AMFT, New York) practicing under supervision.
  • Sex Therapy training at ICP (NYC) working toward AASECT certification, with a focus on intimacy, desire, infidelity repair, and sexual health.
  • Certified in Contemplative Psychotherapy (Nalanda Institute, NYC) a three-year program integrating Buddhist psychology, neuroscience, mindfulness, and compassion.
  • Advanced training in Family Constellation work, Mindful Parenting, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Master’s in Marriage & Family Therapy and a Master’s in Cultural Studies, shaping a multicultural, relational, and systems-aware perspective.

I currently see clients through Cornell & Associates Family Therapy and SteadyNYC Therapy, offering both in-person and teletherapy sessions.

Experience Beyond the Therapy Room

My work has also taken me into communities facing crisis. I have supported refugees, earthquake survivors, and families in displacement, witnessing how grief and resilience are carried not only in words but also in the body. These experiences guide the pace, safety, and presence I bring to therapy today.

How I Work

My approach is somatic, systemic, and contemplative:

  • Somatic — attuning to the body’s signals and unspoken truths, so change is felt, not just thought.
  • Systemic — exploring patterns shaped by family, culture, and relationships, and shifting them with care.
  • Contemplative — slowing down, cultivating presence, and listening deeply to what matters.

Clients often describe sessions as grounding, honest, intuitive, and gently transformative. Together, we set a safe pace, define clear goals, and integrate practical tools such as communication exercises, regulation practices, and relational experiments between sessions.

Specialties & Focus

  • Couples therapy & sex therapy (AASECT training in progress): intimacy, desire differences, sexual pain/avoidance, infidelity repair, rebuilding trust, and breaking daily conflict cycles.
  • Mindful separation & co-parenting: compassionate boundaries and child-focused planning.
  • Individual therapy: anxiety, trauma, grief, identity, and major life transitions.
  • Family therapy & parenting support: strengthening attachment, repairing communication, and breaking intergenerational patterns.

Who I Am

I am Dilek Edwards, AMFT, MA, RYT, immigrant, and partner shaped as much by poetry as by science. These identities influence how I hold space: with honesty, empathy, cultural humility, and openness to the many languages of meaning we carry.
